Calling Coast Salish Textile Designers

Our small business is proud to offer multiple public art opportunities during a time when such opportunities are exceedingly rare.

About the Hobson Place Project

Last year, Eighth Generation Founder Louie Gong (Nooksack) was approached by Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) about a public art opportunity at Hobson Place, a supportive housing and health clinic for formerly homeless individuals. We want to share this opportunity with those that deserve it most - Coast Salish textile designers.

We are seeking collaboration with four Coast Salish textile artists to create large-scale, 2-dimensional artwork for Hobson's Place Residence and Clinic.  Together, we will help increase visibility for Coast Salish art and culture in the Seattle area.

Working from selected artists' images of prior artwork, the Eighth Generation design team will work closely with each artist to create large 2-dimensional, full color artworks based on traditional weaving.  The art will be printed to various substrates, including aluminum panels, and then professionally installed at the Hobson Place Residence and Clinic, which is adjacent to high-traffic Rainier Avenue.

Emphasis on Collaboration

Hobson Place Residence and Clinic is a new housing complex with an embedded health care clinic.  While our goal is to feature textile design, we plan to incorporate secondary design elements that symbolize the themes of security and healing. This may include medicinal plants or animals. With this in mind, the artists should be prepared to work in collaboration with the Eighth Generation design team.
